Here’s what you can expect if it’s your first visit:

Established in 1982, Spartan has proudly been Birmingham’s longest-serving sauna for gay, bisexual and bicurious men. Tucked away in a discreet, well-kept, converted terraced house overlooking the beautiful Victorian Brookvale Park and lake, it’s a friendly, relaxed space with a loyal following and a great community vibe. With ever-welcoming and knowledgeable staff, Spartan is known for its laid-back atmosphere and personal touch.

Facilities & Layout

Entry is still just £10 (2025) — simply pay at the door (CASH – no cards) and you’ll be given a locker key and towel, then you’re ready to step through the secure entrance.

Building layout – Ground Floor:

Immediately past reception door is the cosy coffee bar at the front, perfect for a snack or drink while watching the big-screen TV. Affordable food and drinks available all day. Walk from reception with your locker key and towel through to the changing area with lockers, hairdryer, mirror, and deodorant. Once changed, from the locker room you’ll reach the spacious sauna cabin (which seats 8) or keep walking and you’ll reach the showers, then the steam room (also seats 8) located at the back of the building.

First Floor:

Up the staircase you’ll find the exercise room with multi-gym/walking machine. Walk past the two separate, lockable relaxation cabins and you’re through to the large TV lounge (seats around 15) it’s very comfortable and spacious. At the back of the building on the first floor are the toilet facilities.

Basement:

Another large-screen TV with more comfortable seating and two lockable relaxation cabins.

The Vibe:

Spartan attracts a nice, diverse crowd of friendly, down-to-earth guys. Regulars and newcomers, everyone’s made to feel at home. Why Choose Spartan?

Spartan keeps things simple — no membership, no hassle, with an entry price that’s remained the same for well over a decade. Spartan is a small, intimate, and friendly venue – perfect if you’re new to the scene. The superb place to get accustomed to saunas.

Spartan Men’s Health Club: Small, Friendly, and Full of Heart. Well worth a visit. All you need to bring is a tenner, a smile and a great attitude. See you there!

Nice place. I prefer to go to this club because it’s easy to get to and very near all the major routes around the city. Friendly staff. Very clean. Worth a visit. This was the first sauna I’d ever gone to. Nice, friendly, relaxing atmosphere. They don’t take cards for payments so make sure you take cash.

This is my favorite sauna in Birmingham. Yes, it’s small in comparison to others but it’s very clean, friendly, and you feel safe. The manager/owner is a nice guy. It’s easy to find from the city center and very close to the motorway (spaghetti junction). I’ve met some great guys there – some have become good friends and wish I’d started long before I first did, five years ago.

Inexpensive (£10 entrance – CASH ONLY) and the food/drinks are also very reasonably priced. I got some free cake with my cup of tea. Nice surprise. If you’re gay/bi or bi-curious, and not sure abut the sauna clubs in Birmingham, this is the place I recommend.

I’m not a local and live about 50 miles away but I have been going to Spartan for 20 years. The staff are brilliant good facilities and nice people go there.

The only downside it can be very quiet some days like most gay saunas they are a bit hit and miss.

But over the years, I have had a lot of fun there

And they have a lovely little café where you can chill
