Booked hotel ages ago and got a decent price on a December weekend. Today got a notice saying room cancelled despite not canceling it. Hotel refused to reinstate even though proof was sent that the cancellation did not come from us. Said we had to rebook at the now much higher rate.
Be aware if you get a good deal they seem to cancel
the booking last minute and try and force you into paying more money. Needless to say we didn’t.
Had big expectations for velvet but it lacked.
Reception staff not the friendliest and lacked on providing information e.g is there a bar, check out time just the basics you usually get in any hotel.
Room decor was beautiful and bed very comfortable.
Room had an iron but no ironing board, Room had no telephone to contact reception. We used the telephone number on the website and called 3 times on Sunday morning and got no answer.
The shower at its highest temperature was only look warm, the rain shower when flowing was giving hit and cold water, we reported this to receptionist but there seemed to be lack of interest ‘well let maintenance know’ on return we asked if it had been looked at the she responded ‘maintenance said it is warm’ yes the water at the highest temperature was look warm but not hot. On the day of check out the water was piping hot to the point it would cause burns, even when the knob was turned to cold it was still warm. The shower door also didn’t fully close.
We placed the card on the room door requesting the room to be made up, when we left the room at 1130 the cleaner was on our floor (3) however when we returned at approximately 1430 the room had still not been serviced, he had to request it through reception; again no telephone so had to make my way to reception to request.
Hotel is in a great location but lacks small details or service that would make this 4 stars.
We were very excited about this stay as in the pictures and on the website the hotel looked amazing, however the reality was quite different. When we got there the elevator wasn’t working, our king size room was tiny, there was no desk, no counter in the bathroom, the hot water wasn’t working in the shower, there were no glasses to use to be able to get water from the bathroom with. For £160 for 1 night we were really quite disappointed. The bed however was very large and very comfortable and the blinds were a great blackout quality. We did mention the issues to the staff on check out but she just said thankyou for the feedback nothing else. Probably wouldn’t stay here again, location was great though!
It’s a wonderful hotel with nice, modern and clean rooms as well as professional , extremely friendly and very helpful staff. Great experience at check in and throughout the stay at this hotel. **However – there is a big noise issue.**
Problem is that the Velvet is right above/beside a very loud bar/disco? Something that makes the walls shake and is soooo loud. If you want to sleep I cannot recommend this otherwise lovely hotel.
The hotel is in a good location, just a few minutes walk from Piccadilly. Check in was pleasant, staff were welcoming.
The rooms were clean enough and had a bit of character. The bathroom was spacious and clean, I particularly liked the shower.
We were advised at check in that we had a continental breakfast which would be delivered to our room at a time that suits. Unfortunately This wasn’t delivered on the Sunday morning but did arrive on Monday morning. It was nice to have this delivered to enjoy in the room.
