Gay Bar in Brighton
Guide To Village
Village is a cosy independent café bar, located at 129 Islingword Road in Brighton’s historic Kemptown gay village, and serves as a vibrant cornerstone of the city’s thriving LGBTQ+ community.
This welcoming establishment offers a unique blend of entertainment and dining, featuring a full-service bar and a Thai restaurant that serves evening meals, as well as a popular brunch that attracts both locals and visitors.
The pub is lively throughout the week, hosting an impressive lineup of entertainment including regular drag shows, live music performances, and community-oriented open mic nights. Operating since the late 1980s, The Village has played a significant role in Brighton’s evolution as the UK’s “gay capital,” providing a safe and inclusive space during challenging periods, such as the Section 28 legislation.
With its outdoor seating area, daily happy hour from 5 to 7 PM, and special offers like half-price Bloody Marys with Sunday breakfast, The Village embodies the warm and inclusive spirit that has contributed to Brighton’s reputation for LGBTQ+ acceptance. However, some recent reviews have expressed concerns regarding management and maintenance.

Good food, drink, and service. Cool history too with it being a really old pub that the community saved from being taken away.
The place would use a re org and deep clean though. But cluttered, messy, and a couple chairs wobbling like crazy.
Still a big fan though.
Love this place! The pancakes, Algerian hash, beautiful cheese chips, Such great flavours and a really nice vibe inside, will definitely come back again!
I had brunch at Village, and absolutely loved it. The food was delicious — fresh, well-presented. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and welcoming, lovely and friendly atmosphere!
Had brunch at the village today and loved it! 🌱 The vegan options are delicious and healthy, the staff are super friendly, and the space is quiet and welcoming. Each table has a pretty feature area that looks great in photos , a perfect spot for meeting friends or family.
The food was fantastic, the service was great but a bit slow, then again it was a Sunday morning and sitting with friends having breakfast it does not seem so bad.
Presentation of food was nice and the drinks fresh. Friendly staff.
Overall a very pleasant morning with friends with good food before the 7 hour drive home.
Will definitely go there on my next visit to Brighton.
