Guide To REM Hotel

I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. The room had a very strong smell of cigarette smoke, which made it really unpleasant. The power socket next to the bed didn’t work, and the pillows were extremely uncomfortable. On top of that, there were loud and annoying noises coming from the floor below starting at 6 a.m., which made it impossible to get a proper rest. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

Do not book a room at this hotel. We immediately booked other accommodation after seeing the state of the room, and were promised a refund. Followed this up twice afterwards as we were in town all weekend, fobbed off every time and still yet to see a refund. Dirty stained bed sheets, broken toilet seat, absolutely shouldn’t be on booking.com – location is it’s only positive.

Staff handling check in were very nice.

Location has pros and cons. Busy canal st location. Very busy.

I had to walk out and drive home within 5 mins of being there.

Shared bathroom wasn’t clean. Needed maintenance.

The main problem though was some thoughtful soul had put the radiators on full blast. Windows dont open much and no fan. The temperature today day had been 32 degrees.

Thinking it was clever to sleep up before the drive home? No chance I wouldn’t have slept a wink. Drove home and left the place.

Im not very snobby… if the bed is comfy and the facilities are clean enough, im a happy chap but that was an absolute insult to walk into.

Maybe book in the winter when the 2 radiators will come into their own! (Although they probably would turn them off just to make sure you were uncomfortable.

No reasonably priced parking nearby.

Limited mobility would struggle with the stairs to the top floor.

Booked this last minute and was a third of the price of hotels near Canal Street – but there’s a reason for that.

Don’t get me wrong as I can’t fault the service and friendliness from the staff you check in at REM bar downstairs – the hotel is upstairs where you will be shown your room and given the keys for the doors. I have always experienced amazing service from the guys that work there, they’re so friendly and eager to help and the cost of the room was dirt cheap too, but there was things that did let the room down that could be worked on to make it a really nice place to stay

Unfortunately the rooms are above a nightclub so there is music playing very loudly until 4:00 a.m. on a weekend, my bed of bricks was vibrating from the speakers below.

While the room looks nice it is very basic and the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The windows were wide open I couldn’t close them, there was mould around the window frames and the cups were unwashed and had been put back without being washed. The shared bathroom was very basic, only one shower worked out of the two Bathrooms and that had a very very weak stream of water so it was difficult to get properly washed. There was also a lot of mould in the shower and a hole in the ceiling where there must have been a leak. The toilet also didn’t have a seat and the plug holes in the shower did not have trap trays so you could see all the dirty water from the previous user.

But if basically want somewhere to rest your head after a night out on Canal Street then this will be suitable. If you want a bit more luxury then I would say don’t stay here but you get what you pay for and I knew it wasn’t going to be fantastic as I’d stayed here before. Definitely want to reiterate that the staff we’re absolutely amazing and definitely the best aspect of the stay here

Personally I believe that this bar is the best for a pint or two. Friendly, welcoming staff. Reasonable prices on all selections. Plenty of seats with tables, good music, toilets and sexual health prevention kits for guys. Terrace also available when the weather is kind 😅👏
