Gay Club in Manchester
Guide To Cruz 101
Cruz 101, located in Manchester's vibrant Gay Village, is a legendary nightclub and music venue that has been at the heart of the city's LGBTQ+ scene for 30 years. Since its opening in 1992, Cruz 101 has become one of the most popular and longest-running gay clubs in Greater Manchester, earning the title of "Manchester's Favourite Gay Venue."
The Birth of Cruz 101
Situated on Canal Street, Cruz 101 was born from the transformation of a former shipping warehouse. After a year-long renovation, the club opened its doors on May 22, 1992. Back then, Canal Street was undergoing a significant shift, transitioning from a red-light district to a vibrant and welcoming hub for the LGBTQ+ community. Cruz 101 played a pivotal role in this transformation, offering a safe and inclusive space for gay men to socialise and celebrate.
Cruz 101 faced numerous legal hurdles in its early years. Initially, the club was required to have a strict membership policy, with potential patrons having to wait up to 48 hours for their membership to be approved. However, the owners fought a lengthy legal battle, eventually winning the right to offer membership on the spot. This landmark decision not only benefited Cruz 101 but also set a precedent for other nightclubs across the United Kingdom. It allowed for a more inclusive and accessible nightlife experience for the LGBTQ+ community.
A Diverse and Thriving Venue
Today, Cruz 101 remains a thriving and diverse venue that welcomes party-goers from all walks of life. The club opens its doors four nights a week, offering a range of themed events and partnerships with other bars and clubs in the Gay Village. Throughout its history, Cruz 101 has hosted an array of famous singers, performers, and personal appearances, including Sonia, The Weather Girls, Phil Oakey, and many more. The club’s commitment to providing unforgettable experiences extends beyond the dance floor, with charity events and fundraisers for LGBTQ+ causes.
The Unique Club Experience
Cruz 101 boasts two floors, each with its own distinct atmosphere. The main floor, located at the entrance, is the busiest and liveliest area of the club. It features pop music and disco lights, creating an energetic ambience. Downstairs, known as Sub 101, offers a more intimate setting with trance and bouncy house music. While Sub 101 is predominantly accessible through the main club, special events may have an alternative entrance. The club’s resident DJs, including the renowned Almighty Donald, curate an eclectic mix of dance music, ensuring a memorable night for all.
Disco Inferno: A Monday Night Tradition
One of Cruz 101’s longest-running weekly events is Disco Inferno, which has been a Monday night staple since 1993. Originally focused on disco music from the 1970s and 80s, the event has evolved to include hits from the 90s and beyond. Each week, a featured artist from pop history is celebrated, adding a touch of nostalgia to the vibrant atmosphere. Disco Inferno epitomizes the club’s commitment to showcasing diverse genres and providing a platform for LGBTQ+ artists.

Cruz 101 Reviews

My phone was stolen/misplaced at an Animalz night. The staff went to hell and back to make sure that it was retrieved, from searching every corner of the venue to letting me use a staff member’s phone for Find My functions, for almost 2 hours. It’s nice to see a venue that genuinely takes care of its clientele.
One of the very few locations around Gay Village that genuinely seems to cater to its LGBT audiences. Cruz has virtually no competition if you’re looking for a late-night party. Big thanks to John and the bouncers for retrieving my belongings and genuinely taking care of me more often than they probably should!
Listen to the bad reviews. Got told to take a walk and get some water 2 times even though I was sober and then finally let in. I went to the toilet and not only saw people be physically and verbally attacked by the bouncers (male and female) but then had the same happen to me for no reason at all. When I asked why they made fun of me and threw me out onto the street where when waiting for my uber all I could hear was them bitching about me. Avoid at all costs. Do not give this place your money when other LGBTQIA+ venues actually hold up the inclusive standards.
From what I can see, a friendly environment for people (especially for special events) amazing service and friendly attitude. Lovely staff, lovely venue and just brilliant customer service. I want to thank Connor, Oliver, Shemas, Spencer, Winona and others for the event I attended 9th August. Thank you all for your amazing service today, the other times this event happens and in general. Keep on making your guests happy and for the fine times and you the laugh out loud moments!
The bouncers on the door have always been on a power trip for years but one in particular Allison AKA miss trunchbull, will racially profile you even when you’re a regular. She will go out of her way to make your night hell. I’ve heard management let them act on their behalf so they take it and run with the little authority they have.
