If you’re planning a visit to Pipeworks Gay Sauna Club, here are a few additional details to keep in mind:

So I went yesterday on March 1st and I really didn’t appreciate the attitude of the blond guy with glasses at the front desk. The sauna is fine, I did have a good time. What really made me feel unwelcome was his attitude. He could smile a bit more or be more empathetic. He was nice to the other members but me.
I go to this sauna two or three times a month. I travel 80 miles each way, and used to really enjoy it. But I’m afraid I won’t go back if if they keep this stupid bag policy, I can understand having a look inside your bag, but this is absolutely ridiculous. What are they afraid of, some people sneaking the odd can of beer in, if the bar prices were more reasonable people would buy more problem solved.
Like recent reviews have said there’s now a no bag policy in place yet they don’t appear to have a secure facility to store your bag, it’s apparently behind the counter. I said I’d take a couple of things out of my bag and stick them in my pocket and was told that defeats the point of a no bag policy. I couldn’t take in moisturiser or hand cream because they weren’t sealed. The staff started on about security but if you have stuff in your pockets it doesn’t matter so it’s clearly not a security thing. If it’s genuinely about security I would have no issue at all with them searching my bag and emptying my pockets, but this is a load of nonsense. Instead of knowing your stuff is securely in your locker that you have a key for, it’s now just behind the bar with a tag on it? No thanks, you’re alright.
I’ve been frequenting Pipeworks regularly for over a decade but until this changes I won’t be returning.
To add after the venue’s response. As has been mentioned it’s intended to reduce drug paraphernalia. Anyone taking drug paraphernalia in while just stick it in their pockets in advance if no one is being searched. I can take in anything I like if I just stick it in my pocket first? If it’s so secure why would staff not make any effort to explain the policy, the process for bag storage and provide reassurance? I was given no explanation. I was just told I couldn’t taken things out of my bag and couldn’t have it until I left.
Worst experience ever. Came in and was told no bag policy. And if I want anything from my back he needs to check. I took my poppers and silicon lube cause I prefer this lube instead of the shitty one they give for free.
The guys sniffed my poppers and pumped my lube once on his hand to confirm. And YET tells me “NOT ALLOWED” as they are open. They must be sealed.
To my understanding from the same guy at the counter, if you walk in without a bag and have these items in your pocket, they won’t check. SO HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE???? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO HERE??
The guy told me it’s fairly busy though. However, when I asked a guy who was leaving he said not busy. They must be tricking us.
Anyways never going there again. I don’t live here. I travel and here on work trips sometimes. I’d use Grindr and telling everyone how shit this place has become with your stupid rules that no sauna has ever put.
You want to keep my bag with you. Like as it it will be safer than in a locker.
